If you would like to participate in a community service project along with some of our other Friendship Force members, you are invited to join us to distribute food for food insecure individuals and families on Friday, February 22 or on Saturday, March 2. River City Food Bank uses volunteers to help distribute food every Saturday and (recently added) on the 2nd and 4th Fridays at The Center at St. Matthew’s, 2300 Edison Avenue in Sacramento. Set-up is from 9:00-11:00 am, and food distribution is from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. One can volunteer for either or both shifts. A family or individual who reports income at or below the poverty line can receive the nutritionally balanced food. Families with small children also receive non-food items such as diapers. Many of these families are refugees from Afghanistan, and they live in the Arden-Arcade area. Volunteers stand for most of the time during each shift, and closed toed shoes are required. You can sign up on the website or contact Audrey Wiechman at audreywiechman@gmail.com or (916) 481-4073 no later than February 27th.
