Celebrate Chinese New Year

Come celebrate Chinese New Year with your Friendship Force friends this year.  2023 is the year of the Rabbit. The sign of Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture.  2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.

Join us on Sunday, January 22, at 1:30 P.M., as we gather at the Park at Laguna Springs, for our monthly meeting. The featured speaker will be Kimmy Wan, speaking to us in honor of the Chinese New Year.  When Kimmy first came to the U.S. from Hong Kong, China at the age of 16, thanks to a sponsorship, the only English she knew were numbers and body parts.  She worked hard at minimum-wage jobs to put herself through school, earning a degree in finance and economics with honors from California State University at Sacramento as well as an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Her motto, “Work hard, dream big,” has stayed with her since then—and continues to drive her.

Today, with more than 20 years of financial industry experience, as well as sales and marketing and portfolio management, she is the founder and CEO of Sacramento, California-based KW Wealth Management, where she provides clients with investment advising services.

Because she knows the struggle of coming to a new country, learning a new language, and building a life from scratch, Kimmy works hard to uplift other immigrants and members of the AAPI community. She also wants her own success as a business founder and owner to inspire others, especially given the unfortunate spike in hate crimes committed against the AAPI community over the past year. Fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese, and speaking some Japanese and Chinese sign language, Kimmy is able to communicate with clients across the AAPI community and make them feel comfortable and welcome.  In her spare time, she enjoys tutoring kids in Chinese, Math, and piano.

Chris Budwine has arranged for the meeting to be at the Park at Laguna Springs, 9670 Laguna Springs Drive, Elk Grove.

Following the meeting we will adjourn to the Tea Garden9109 Laguna Main Street, Suite 100, Elk Grove, for a Chinese Dinner.  If you plan to stay for the meal, choose the Meeting and Meal option when you register for the meeting.
