It’s Year of the Dragon! Let’s take the Capitol Corridor train to San Francisco in the morning and go to the Community Street Fair and the night Chinese New Year Parade.
We’ll each buy our tickets and meet on the train. We can get lunch at the Community Fair and stay for the parade. Parade ends about 8 pm, so we will get home about 11 pm.
This has been named one of the top ten parades in the World by International Festivals & Events Association and is the biggest parade celebrating the Lunar New Year outside of Asia. The Community Street Fair, 10 am to 4:30 pm, is throughout Chinatown and includes Chinese folk dancing, opera, drumming, and family activities.
Round trip cost of Amtrak tickets from Sacramento or Davis ranges $60- $68; bleacher seating can be reserved for $41, but the parade is free and you can view from the street without a ticket.
