Biarritz Journey Eleven Sacramento FF Ambassadors traveled to Biarritz, France for a Journey that was especially chosen to participate in the Festival of St. Jean. Their host families welcomed them at the train station and were given a guided tour of Bayonne followed by a welcome luncheon in a local restaurant. After lunch they visited an informative Basque museum. The week continued with more exciting and educational activities such as: a boat ride to Fontarrabie, Spain; a visit to St. Jean Pied-de-Port, the beginning route pilgrims take on the Camino de Santiago; watching the game of pelote, similar to handball; enjoying the Biarritz beaches and more. The Farewell party was a potluck dinner held in the museum-like home of one of the members, built in 1809. An accordian player accompanied singing and dancing. Fond memories were made by learning interesting facts about the local Basque culture, with lots of delicious food and, of course, wine. But most importantly we made many new friendships to cherish. |
