SandHill Crane Viewing
Join our Gifu ambassadors as we view the SandHill Cranes fly in. These stately birds migrate to our area every year and are residents from October to March. The cranes spend the day feeding on harvested fields throughout the area, then they return just before sunset to spend the night in open fields near water. To view a video on Sand Hill Cranes, www.soscranes.org.
We will meet at 3:00 pm on the deck of the visitor's center of the Consumnes River Preserve, 13501 Franklin Blvd, Galt. We will have a short presentation by a member of the local Audubon Society, then caravan to the best viewing spot for the fly-in. This is changeable, dependent on the birds' activity that day.
To reach the Preserve, take Highway 5 South from Sacramento to Twin Cities Road, proceed east (left turn) on Twin Cities Road to Franklin Blvd., first stop sign. At the stop sign, turn right onto Franklin Blvd and continue to the Visitor Parking lot on the left. There will be a Visitor Parking sign on the right side of the road shortly before the turn in. The Visitor's Center is visible, back off the road.
The tour is free, but donations to SOSCranes are appreciated. (Save our Sandhill Cranes).
