Davis Cherry Blossom Festival
Presented by Sudwerk Brewery at Sudwerk Brewing Co. Dock Store, Davis CA
Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan and Sudwerk Brewing Co. are excited to present the annual Davis Cherry Blossom Festival, a weekend filled with music, art, culture, food, beer, and friends!
Activities include:
-Two music stages featuring live music and taiko (traditional and contemporary Japanese drumming)
-Food and art vendors
-Local artist’s gallery
-Interactive educational/cultural demonstrations (mochi pounding, taiko lessons, shibori dying, origami, and more!)
-Games and activities
The limited, seasonal Sakura beer is back for the weekend, too. Like the delicate blossoms, it goes fast, but you may be able to save some for later this year with our first-ever can release while supplies last.

Mochitsuki (Rice Cake Pounding) Learn how to make mochi with traditional usu (mortar) and kine (pestle). Volunteers from the Nikkei Student Union at UC Davis will help show you the ropes. Sunday, April 7: 12:00-4:00pm
Community Taiko Lessons Come to our community taiko lessons and learn the basics of taiko from Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan. Bachi (drumsticks) will be provided for the lesson. All ages and experience levels welcome. April 6-7: 11:00am-12:00pm
Chochin (Paper Lantern) Making Decorate a paper lantern to your liking and hang it up at the festival or on our yatai (float). You might see it in the Picnic Day parade. You can keep your lantern for a small price, too. April 6-7: While supplies last.
Minyo Demonstration Try out some folk dances with Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan. It's easy - just follow along! The steps are simple, but don't worry too much about getting it right. "There's a dancing fool and a watching fool. Fools either way, might as well dance!" Sunday, April 7: 6:15-6:45pm
Game Booths You can win some fun festival prizes at the game booths. Save up your loose dimes in the coming weeks for the fan-favorite Dime Toss game. Fishing and marksman games, popular at Japanese festivals, this year too. April 6-7: Daylight hours.
Ikebana Demonstration Live flower arrangement demonstrations from the Sacramento Chapter of Ikebana International. Come see the beautiful floral displays and learn a bit about the art of flower arrangements. Displays both days; demos at specified times. April 6-7: 12:30-1:00 & 1:30-2:00
